Disable offline files folder redirection double blue arrow

Greetings,

When files go offline and sync, XP automatically adds a double blue arrow onto the icon. The problem is, it covers up the part where the single black arrow would be if it was a shortcut.

Apparently, even shortcuts are sync'd so there is no way to tell if the file is a real file or a shortcut by just looking at it. I have a few users who are complaining about this.

Is there anyway to disable this blue double icon link? I tried looking at group policies and also tweakui but cannot seem to find anything.

Does it help to display the file ext in the name? For .lnk files you could read and adapt this posting.
