Hi -

I'm not sure this is the appropriate forum, but we don't seem to have one specifically for Firefox.

I feel this should be easy to do but I just can't find the option!

If you hold down the [ALT] key and click on a link, instead of navigating to that page, Firefox tries to download it. This wouldn't be so bad (just don't press [ALT] :) except that if I click on a link and then [ALT]- away, this also downloads the page. It's driving me mad!

Can anyone tell me how to disable this? I'd be very happy if the [ALT] just had no effect.

I've tried downloading the KeyConfig extension but that didn't seem to reveal this option.

Thanks in advance,
Monkey36.

Ach, I've missed off a word there. Sorry!

I meant [ALT]-[TAB] away - I tend to have a couple of applications open, and if I click on a link and think it's going to take a second, I flick applications by using the Windows [ALT]-[TAB] shortcut.

Yeah, if you want to put if like that.

But I've just got into a routine where I will have a few browser windows open, and when I click on a link in one window, flick back to another to read what has been loaded there.

Maybe I could do this more effectively by having several tabs open, but I happen to prefer the multiple windows approach.

Also, this is essentially a flaw in the Firefox product - if I'm not holding down the [ALT] key when I click on the link, then it shouldn't try to save the page, rather than open it. And I do wait until I've let go of the mouse before hitting ALT - TAB.

It's just getting on my nerves a bit, and it feels like there should be an easy solution but I can't find it!

Anyone?

I've just glanced over this thread, and noticed that every time I've written ALT-TAB with the TAB in square brackets, it has been removed (I presume this is some TGML magic). So in case anyone is confused [ALT]- means ALT-TAB.

Still, any help?

It turns out that [ignore][TAB][/ignore] is a TGML code - just undocumented. You can avoid that by using [ignore][ignore][/ignore][/ignore] tags around it, like this:

[ignore][ignore][TAB][/ignore][/ignore]

I've recommended that it be added to the list of TGML codes to avoid this unnecessary confusion in future.
