I am moving my SMS 2.0 SP4 site to another server. I have the new server setup on a "dummy" network; the domain name, site code, netbios name, ip address are all the same. I've restored the "real" SMS database to this new server. I've upgraded it to SP5 since it is now on an SQL2K and Win2K3 server. I've added a few PCs to this simulated domain in an attempt to see any possible problems before I roll out the new server. I get mixed results with the PCs updating themselves to SP5...enough to make me a little uneasy about moving the new server to the true domain.
In a earlier post last week, I was looking for a way to manually update the clients. I struck out on that. Is there a way to disable the 2.0 clients from upgrading automatically; something that would give me control on when and how many PC's get upgraded as opposed to 450 PCs altogether trying to upgrade their clients to SP5 once the discovery and installation methods kick in.
