Disable Client Browser

Our 2000 Active Directory network is still experiencing a lot of 8003 Browse election errors. I would like to disable the Browse service on all 2000 clients. Microsoft say that the browse service is still included in 2000 for backward compatibility but nowhere have I found a "best practice" or "performance recommendation" re: turning off this service.

Am I missing something? Is there any reason NOT to disable this service?
