Disable AutoDial? 1

Hi everyone,
I am in a mostly new position, trying to figure out a lot of things at once. We use many Nortel M3903 phones, a few M3902's, and a few M3904's.

Our users really don't have a need for the AutoDial feature, yet somehow it gets activated quite frequently when the Shift button is accidentally depressed.
This has created a few problems for us, since if they put a customer on hold when the AutoDial is active, they cannot get the call back. The phone will beep indicating someone is on the line, but of course the users didn't know they activated the feature in the first place, so they don't know how to deactivate it. This has become a more serious problem recently as it happens with paging, when someone doesn't hang up the phone completely or press the Goodbye button. Then they leave the phone so they don't hear the beeping, and I have to go track it down (a long process).

Is there a solution for these problems? I have tried educating the users to not hit the Shift button (since I don't know any better), but we have a lot of employees, and many of them are PRN, or rotating through for only a short time.

Thanks!
Ryan

If you really mean AutoDial, that is a KEY feature (KEY xx ADL). I bet you mean Last Number Redail? Just set CLS LND (instead of LNA)

If you mean disable SHIFT, I wish you could. Sometimes I add the users extension on the second page of the phone (the SHIFT page).

As for the Paging, it is an easy fix. The Paging trunk is in a Trunk Route. The Trunk route has a Timer called Timed Force Disconnect (TFD). Set that for TFD 60 and the paging will disconnect after 60 seconds.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, it is the Shift key that is getting bumped and our phones are set to program AutoDial with the Shift key. Is it possible to change or remove the binding to the Shift key?

I learned that our paging system is not a Nortel product, but is somehow interfaced with our Nortel system, so there is not a trunk route, from what I can see.

Thanks again for the help.

390x phones suck. You could label one of the ADL keys as "Press Shift" (Key labels on 390x phones are done in the phone settings)

Your paging is probably programmed as "Station Port" (just an analog 500 port). There is probably a timing setting in the paging box you could set to expire after xx seconds.
