Disable and hide buttons 1

I hve a menu made up of 14 diffrent buttons. I want to make it so that if less than 14 buttons are needed, some of them can be disabled and hidden. The "buttonname.enabled=false;" command does not seem to be working. How can this be done? Any ideas?
