Hello,
I am using the aforementioned router to share an internet connection between two computers. My internet service is Roadrunner (cable modem) and my internet runs from the cable modem to the uplink port on the router and then out to the two PCs. Although I have a wireless capable router, all connections are being made through standard RJ45 cable. Thus, the only setting I've changed within the router configuration utility is to turn wireless connections off. My problem is this - for the majority of the time, the internet can be accessed from both PCs just fine - that is WWW, FTP, telnet, etc. Occassionally I will come back from class and find that it's stopped working and unplugging the router, waiting a few minutes and plugging it back in seems to solve that problem, although I don't think it shoulud be happening, period. However, AOL Instant Messenger refuses to work the vast majority of the time for both PCs - it will go through the normal steps that are necessary to connect but will time out at the last step which says "Starting services" and I get the following error message: "Your buddy list and buddy icon are not available but have not been lost - please try again later." The funny part is this - when just one computer is connected to the router, both of these problems do not happen - it's only when a second PC is connected that these problems starting popping up. Now, I'm not sure if something needs to be configured within the router set up (perhaps something unique to RoadRunner?) or what but I would really, really like to a). have the random disconnects stop and b). have both computer be able to access AOL Instant Messenger concurrently. If you could be of any help, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thank you very much.
