I am looking for any help here in raising the profile of this site ( as it is already getting indexed by Google etc (partially - a recode is in the pipeline to get rid of the frames/dynamic URLs etc). I need to up it's "importance".
I am aiming to build some quality incoming links to the site, so web rings etc are a "no no".
To this end I am looking to submit the site to a number of reputable web directories.

Can anyone suggest some "quality" web directories... the ones I really should be submitting to. Phase 2 is to get listings in some specialist property directories etc.

So far I have submitted entries to:
DMOZ
Yahoo.co.uk (.com will follow)
ask.co.uk (.com will follow)
Best of the Web
UK Net Guide

My client does not wish to embark on any pay per clicks yet, but when I convince him to do what services would be good to sign up to?
Google AdWords?
Looksmart? (it appears the only way to get into the Looksmart directory is to run a PPC campaign with them - is this the case?)

I'm fairly new to practical SEO so any help is appreciated!

small list of directories here
also ezilon an EU specific directory

try a search on "addurl" and "submit your site" etc

But you will be fighting a losing battle to get good results with a Flash splash page with zero content and the rest of the site in frames, so the recode to use SSI or asp scripting to replace the frames would be far more important than hunting links.

and personally, I wouldn't bother with Looksmart at all.

Chris.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?

You sounded just like me talking to the client then :)

Thanks for the tips.

I would get rid of the splash page as well. From the visitor's perspective, it is simply an annoyance, forcing you to wait several seconds before forcing you to click yet again to access the site proper.
Not really related to your question, I know, but I had to mention it. Sorry..........they just irritate me so much!!

Regards, Andy.

My pathetic attempts at designing a private web site can be laughed at here:

Yep, I hate the splash page and the frameset.
I didn't do it. Wasn't me! Honest!

I am in the process of persuading the client to make some radical changes to the site.

However, the site has been steadily climbing in rank over the last few days so it's not all bad!

Thanks for your help.
