Directory entry users cannot be dialed by name.

I auto added about 500 direcory entry users to a CallPilot 5.0 600r. The problem is that they dont show up in the dial by name directory. If I open the directory entry user in CallPilot Manager and click save they magically start to work. Anyone run into this? I tested at another site and got the same results. They also failed when I built them individually.
 
I thought that the under has to go in and record their name before they would appear and work in the Dial by Name Directory. When you use dial by name, you always hear the persons name and confirm thats who you want, so that has to be there first.
