I am creating a company Intranet from scratch and we are not using Sharepoint Portal Server.

I would like to be able to allow a user to click on a "Browse" button from an ASP page which would bring up Explorer and allow this user to select a file to upload to the web server. I have not had much luck finding a solution so far.

Is this possible outside the confines of Sharepoint?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

I don't know about "explorer" but you can certainly use regular Windows file open dialogs via the Windows Common Dialog Control.

The trick is to have the browser's security settings at a point where it allows ActiveX controls for intranet sites.

You might look at:

And scroll down to "VBScript as an HTML Application" for an example. This has a download a tthe bottom of the page which demonstrates an HTA (HTML Application), but the main .HTA file is still HTML with VBScript and shows how to use the MS Common Dialog control in DHTML to let the user browse to a file.

HTAs are HTMs, but with some special capabilities and relaxed browser security.

Thanks dilettante,
A common dialog box would work just fine. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

This is why I am a member on this site. I always get good information from people who know what they are talking about.

Thanks again,
Dave
