I am trying to skip root (/) when backing up our Solaris boxes running Solaris 8. We backup root every month using ufsdump for recovery purposes. We have DBA's and other SA's that add file systems and forget to tell me they are there to be added to the nightly backup. We are running Solstice Backup 5.5.3 Build 262 on Solaris 8.
TIA for any input.

Easy way is to modify the directive. (or create a new one for the client that you backing up)
So, create new directive, call it something like "skip root"
Modify the directive and add the following.
I don't know what the root path is in Unix (if of the the windows NT family) but I think
<<\>>
+skip: .
Which means skip all fils in \ and subdirectories.
All this is explained on page 123 of the Legato manual.
Let us know if that works.

Thanks x2shy,

By removing the "+", root was skipped and the rest of the machine backed up just fine.
