Hi,
I am trying to backup a Norstar 0x32 system with USA MICS 1.0 Software using Norstar Manager (NRU9.0). Someone I spoke with on this board about another issue was kind enough to give me instructions on how to backup once I get connected but thus far I have been unable to connect over a phone line. When I use the phone line and dial in using the Feature 9*0, I cant get the RAD to handshake with the host PC. Now I am considering using a direct connection with a serial cable to the RAD. Has anyone ever done this before that might have some tips?
Thanks,

Craig,
Using NRU 9.x and MICS 1.0 software should allow you access to the set emulation program. You must do the NRU connect set up, phone the customer on that line ie out through the set port on your computer, and then have the customer do the F9*0 which transfers you to the Fast Rad. Then you have to press the connect button with your mouse when you hear the modem CNG tones.
You will not be able to do a back up with NRU 9 on an MICS 1.0. You require a minimum of MICS Rls 2.0. You can, however, do the back up using Norstar Manager which is in the complete NRU package. The Norstar Mangler takes quite a bit longer but you CAN do it.

Thanks.
I have been trying to do this since yesterday afternoon and I cant seem to get a handshake using the phone line. I noticed the RAD had a 9pin Serial Port so I thought i could do a direct connect right at the RAD. Any suggestions on the Direct connect method?
Thanks,
Craig

Change your connection properties to direct connect and you should have no problem.

I just had a FastRAD that was acting the same way. I could set it up from a phone using Feature 9*0, but it would not connect by modem or direct connect. I loaded a firmware update to the FastRAD and that fixed my problem. Contact me by email if you can't connect directly and I'll send you the update program for the FastRAD. Brian Cox

Additionally to the connect settings mentioned by redhawkfla, make sure you are using a Null Modem cable. You will still only be able to use the set emulator and Norstar Mangler. Rls R1 T1 is not compatable with the browser or the back up and restore utility.

I do not use a null modem cable on a direct connection to a RAD....to a NAM COM port yes but not for a RAD. Regardless it will be quickly apparent what works.

Interesting. I do. ?? Wonder if my cable is incorrectly marked or the FastRAD will support either way.
Grr.
