direct serial connection setup for XP

Has anyone successfully setup the direct serial connection to the nam (4.04c) on XP Home version software?I can't seem to find the right combination to connect to the nam. I get an error before it connects and verifies user and password. I have no prolem on my win98 machine. Does anyone have instructions for setup on XP?
