hi all. does any one have an idea on how to implement direct
data transfer between two h70 servers via a null modem
connected to the serial interfaces?. i would prefare this to either manual tape / network (rcp) due to the volume involved (up to 2 GBytes data)

hi
i would prefer to automate ftp process for such data transfer(with the help of cron job)
But pls remember you have to check the limits for the user for whom the
ftp process have to be automated(cron job).

but what of the security loopholes that might result from an ftp process?

besides do you know of specific commands???????

regards

i actually meant updating the backup server with specific
contents on the live server. no hacmp / raid yet

That's a lot of data, just how fast *are* these serial ports?

Anyway -- a program called kermit will probably do what you want. Run kermit on both machines and it will allow you to do file transfer between them.

An easier and more reliable way to do this, without loading your network up, would be to add a network card to each machine so that they have their private network. The new cards would have their own IP addresses so you could then direct ftp sessions to use the private network.

What security holes are you worried about? You can make ftp fairly secure....
