I work in the telecommunications industry and am just starting to get trained on opc's. When you swap out a opc, you not only have to be working with the one you are replacing, but you also need to be able to monitor the other one too { always 2 opc's, worker and protect} I can use procomm with out a problem the normal way, or at least to me the normal way, computers serial port to opc interface, but I would also like to be able to monitor the second opc without needing a second computer or dumb terminal to do it. On face value, it should be easy. Connect the regular way to talk to the network one {the opc you are not fixing} and then use a second connection to directly talk to the opc you are installing.
Here is my issue, I can not get a parallel port direct connection going to save my life. I also tried using the mouse port with a serial converter plug, but still no communications.
So here is the question, how do you set up the system to a alternate device {other than the normal serial connector}? Is there something I need to do in windows 98? or am I missing a function in Procomm? I tried to install another modem, but all that did was activate some fax program from hell that would not stop saying it was checking the 9600 baud modems capabilities and never stopped. Would not let anything happen and I eventually had to uninstall and reinstall without fax capabilities, not that I needed them in the first place.
Hopefully someone out there knows where I need to kick this thing to get this working lol
thx for any help you can give,
John B.
