How can i enable internet connection sharing over a DCC connection. Both comptuers run winxp pro, i use the parallel port 2 make the connection.
Also how do you share files via dcc. I can connect successfully but i cannot see the machine in "my network places" I just get the message "Work group is not accessable... this list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."

Connection

may be of use.

If this setup is at all permanent I'd suggest getting a network card for each machine and a CAT5 crossover cable and install real networking (very cheap and MUCH better than direct cable connection - XP has internet connection (ICS) software built-in).
also has good help on how to set that up.

I agree with Wolluf...a LAN with NIC's is alot better performance wise over DCC. Enkrypted

I followed the steps on the websites but i still cant share files or share an internet connection. 3rd party software was needed to share an internet connection so i dont think i will bother with it.
"Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)", which is designed to work via LAN using a network, it does not work using a Direct Cable Connection"

I enabled the computer browser service and netbios over tcp/ip but i still got the same error message. My parallel cable is fine because i can transfer files via windows commander at 65KB/sec.

I do not intend this connection to be perminant. I bought the cable for a few £'s at a computer fair. I just use it for backing up work, for any big files u use a cd writer. I would like to get network cards but i do not have much money because i am saving up for a new monitor and speakers.
