Here is another one:

Has anyone been able to connect another computer (i.e. with Win95/98) to the one run under WindowsMe? According to MS support, all that is needed is to enable filesharing and install certain protocols (IPX/SPX & NetBEUI), which I have done.

However it still does not work.

Am beginning to wonder if indeed WindowsMe is worth all this trouble ...

Thx & best

How are you trying to connect them?
If it's through a NIC and crossover cable, then you must also have PnP detection enabled (installed). It's in control panel, add/remove programs, windows setup tab, somewhere in there.
If it's DCC, then you must have DCC installed on both machines, but don't need any NIC's or IPX/SPX.
You should ONLY need NETBEUI if you're using NIC's and crossover or a hub. Cheers,

thx for the prompt response

The connection is via DCC and it is installed on both machines.

However, according to the online MS Knowledge center (since they say that WinMe and Win95 use different protocols) both IPX/SPX and NetBEUI should be installed on both machines.

I did that; however to no avail.

Any other ideas?

Thx

What kind of cable are you using?
If it's parallel, it must be a crossover cable. Any standard "printer" cable just won't work. Same applies to serial. If you're using modems, you need a "nullmodem" cable.
I believe you when you say MS tells you that you need IPX/SPX and NetBEUI both, but I still fail to see why one would need redundant protocalls. One, the other, or TCP/IP should be all you need. Cheers,

You are right. Went back to the MS Support doc and it states in fact that IPX/SPX only needs to be installed on the WinMe machine since it is a default installation of Win95. If it's in fact not part of the Win95 setup, it is not needed on the WinMe connect.

Having said all this, still have not found a solution. So have decided to getet some other PC-to-PC connection SW and leave it at that
