i have connected 2 PCs one with XP and the other with 2000 with a serial cable. I have connected them through COM ports. I have set up a host and guest connection on the comps. i am able to connect to the comp, in the xp system it shows that a client has connected. but i cant access the shared folders! when i try to access the XP system(host) from the 2k sytem i get the following error: "no logon server available". can you please tell me if anything is wrong. also some site asked me to map a drive to solve this problem, how do i do this.

running wondow's built in home network wizard should fix all your issues.

to map a drive you would first need to browse the network. open "my network places" and right-click on the other c: drive and click map drive. if you can see it or if it can't find it, there would be no way to map it. from your post the way you are networking them will still need some work done. ie. shareing drives, useing NAT ect.
