I have a MicronPC ClientPro 325 E with a 64MB DDR nVidia Geforce4 MX460 AGP Card with Dual Monitor Support (VGA, DVI) and two monitors. I have a main application that uses the primary monitor for it's display. Among other things this application will initiate a separate application that will run videos(probably AVIs). I want to force the videos to be displayed on the second monitor every time, without someone having to manually do anything (like drag the window to the second monitor the first time the second application is run on the system). I've been told that: some video cards have special drivers that can give you options of what desktop to open a specific program in; that the issues from using an nVidia card differ from those of ATI card; and that with nVidia it matters which detonator driver revision you are using as different revisions of the nView utility do different functions.

A little additional info: A variety of folks will be creating the videos. I will be probably be selecting the product that plays them. For example, it could be something like Camtasia Player. But I do not want to write the second application - there are lots of video player products around. My application is leased to customers, so no royalties on the player application is a requirement. I do not want to recreate the wheel! It may be possible to request the video producers to set it up so that their video is self contained and the application they give me takes care of this directly, but I don't want to go that route either. I have specific limitations to enforce such as screen coverage, resolution, and the most important one: no input controls on the player (video is initiated by the primary application that's using the main monitor and it runs until it completes).

I need to understand what's involved with directing the output to the second monitor…How do I do this?

And I need to find a good application to play the videos. Any suggestions?

It's going to be a little tricky to find an application that will allow you access to an applications controls and deny others of those rights. IMHO...I'm not sure if they make them or not. I'm sure a custom-built video program can be created...but that's all in a programming aspect. As far as being able to allow specific programs to pull up on certain monitors, nVidia's nView has the capability to do that<version 1.0 and higher>. You can get the downloads and more specs on their website:
