I have an AMD 3200 64 bit machine, running windows XP Pro w/SP2 installed, equiped with an ATI 9800 pro graphics card and latest drivers, DirectX 9.0C, and a Samsubg 19" TFt monitor. The problem is that randomly the machine when entering a game that requires 3D I will only see the top half of the screen. I will then go to the directX diagnostic and run the 3D test and it will only show me the top half of the screen. I then check drivers and reload same, and can usually get it to give me a full screen. Then it will be fine for a few weeks again. Then all of a sudden it does it again. The machine works well other than that. I don't have this problem at any other time , other than playing a game.

I suggest that you submit your question to the ATI tech support. This may be because of registers that are not properly addressed by the driver at boot, and that new chip lots show the problem and not older ones.

You might also want to submit a remark to Microsoft, given that you state that the OS is patched with SP2.
Did you have that problem under SP1 already, or did it appear after SP2 installed ?

Pascal.
