Does anyone know if there are different dip switch settings for a Epson TM-U220B 664(has 1 ISDN port) than a TM-U220B-653 (has 2 ISDN ports)? I have Micros 3700, and this is to replace a broken kitchen remote printer and I cannot get it to print anything but a self-test. Thanks

#1 Match the dip switch settings (make the dip switches the same as they were on the original ptr)All Dip switches (on the interface card & in the ptr itself)
#2 swap the interface cards
#3 maybe the problem is not the ptr. Does the original ptr self test? What was problem with original ptr?

Don't know 3700 very well but I do not believe whether there are two ports or one makes a difference when connecting them but if I am wrong I will be corrected by somebody here. Very good 3700 knowledgable contributors are here.... stay tuned.

Make sure the switches are mounted the same. I've seen cases where certain models have the dip switch banks mounted upside down. You think the switches all match but they're actually set opposite. Since switch 7 overrides everything else and fires the self test this may be what's happening.

The original printer would stop printing after about 15 minutes of use...just flashing error message. I had a workaround that would get it going again but eventually that stopped working as well.

I think I was unclear in my original message in that I meant to say that all I could get the NEW printer to print was a self-test (not the old one). Anyways, I will try seeing if the dip switches are mounted wrong. I guess I just need to try opposite settings for each to see if this is the case...?

Also, the printer with two ISDN ports has another dip switch on the outside of the machine (as well as the under the plate on the bottom), whereas the one with one ISDN port only has the 2 under the plate on the bottom, if that is significant.

How do I swap interface cards?

Thank you!

what you described as far as dip switch on the outside of the printer, I have never seen anything like that.

The broken printer may indeed just have a problem. Don't bother switching IDN cards as the error light condition isn't causing that. But just in case, try opening the ptr cover and remove the metal plate that covers the print head, you'll see that the print head slides back & forth on a round shaft, dip (lightly) your finger into cooking oil and lube down that shaft on both sides of the print head, you need very little oil, so be careful. It may just be that the print head is getting bound up case the shaft is dry. Sorry this post has nearly a dozen inuendo's.

Thank you, that suggestion was my original workaround that I referred to (I got the suggestion here!)...the oil trick worked for several months but works no longer. So that printer is a goner, I am really concerned with getting the new one set up and going since I am missing one now.

The dipswitch on the outside is right next to the ISDN ports.

OK, It turns out that the printer I purchased (not purchased through Micros) doesn't have a Micros IDN interface board. I do have a couple of "IDN components kits" that came with prior like-model printers purchased through Micros, but this seems complicated to install. So, I tried swapping out an interface card from another Micros TM-U220B printer and putting it in the new printer, and it still doesn't work! What is happening here? I did a diagnostic test on it, and compared it to a diagnostic test on a functioning Micros/Epson TM-U220B printer, and the only major differences were:

Original printer: "Interface:Full duplex RS422 XON/XOFF
New printer: "Interface: Full duplex RS485 Xon/Xoff

Original printer: "All tests passed."
New printer: "All tests finished."

Baudrate, device type, dip switch settings, Loop back with test plug (FAIL for both), are all the same. Both say device number= 2. Should they have different device numbers?
