what are dip's/sip's???? are they just types of "connections" like pga/spga for chips other than processors? ie pga/spga = processors dip/spa = other chips?

DIP = Dual In-line Package
SIP = Single

These are the package types for ICs.

SIP stands for Single inline package, and tends to be a resistor/bank of resistors and DIP stands for Dual Inline Package, which tends to be a switch/bank of switches. I say "tends to be", because DIPs can be rotary (variable resistor) switches, and SIPs can also be simple switches.

Either way, they're electronic components on your motherboard which very rarely need to be changed. Hence the switches are tiny things that you can only adjust with a pointed object, like a pen.

Hope this helps
