Hello,
Corel Draw 6. The dimension tool.I have with help from the forum found out how to seperate and move the dimension measurement which comes at the end of each line one creates. It always comes in inches, can this be changed so that it always comes in millimetres, in fact how does one get it to show millimetres?

Thanks...BigDin

Hello again BigDin,

Glad I was able to help you with the dimension tool and I apologize for not instructing you on how to make those markes you needed to make. The following should help you but first you will have to set your duplicate distance settings for measuring with cm.

1) double click on the vertical or horizontal ruler

2) a window pops up for changing ruler settings....select centimeters in the "Units" area

3) then in the far left scroll box scroll up to heading "Workspace" click on the "+" to epand a list of other headings (if there is a "-" beside the word "Workspace" then the list is already expanded) click on the word "Edit"

4) under the heading that says "Nudge" enter 0 in the box beside Nudge and in the box for units enter centimeters

5) click ok and you should be back at your workspace

6) now make sure that nothing on the workspace is selected.
In a tool bar at the top of your workspace ther shoul be a place where there is an X over a Y with a box beside each when you move the cursor into one of the boxes a note should fly out that says duplicate distance. This lets you know that you are in the right spot

7) enter the number you want for the X distance(horizantal placement of duplicates) and 0 for the Y distance and visa versa for vertical placement of duplicates

8) now you are ready to make your markes......draw a mark

9) line it up with the edge you want the makes to be on

10) then with the mark still selected hold down the "Ctrl" key and press the "D" key and the mark will be duplicated at the distance you entered above

now here's how to change the measuring units for the dimension tool.

1) creat a dimension line but don't break apart/separate

2) double click on a number in the dimension

3) a flyout pops up for the dimension tool

4) be sure that linear dimension is highlighted

5) the select "cm" in the box for units

6) then click the set defaults button......Your Done!

While your in the flyout menu take a look around to see what can be changed.

Thanks again "rh14k"
my problem seems to be to understand what terminology is used for the various elements in CDraw.
The far left scroll bar definitely puzzled me but by clicking in other places I found something to do with options and I found the word nudge which you explained in part 4 of your thread.
One feels so silly when one realises it is elementary!!

Anyway my hat is off to you......BigDin

Hello rh14k,
you haven't got rid of me yet. I have now spent hours trying to find the( x over a y )box, but no luck. Is it in Corel Draw 6 which I have? or is there another way to make small marks at different intervals along lines?

Hope to hear from you soon or others that read this...........Thanks,,,,,,,BigDin

lol...Hello again,

I'm going to ask you to right click on the blank grey space near one of your menu bars at the top of the work are. If you get a pop up menu, one of the selections should be property bar. If the selection for property bar does not have a check in the box place one in the box. The property bar is where the "X" & "Y", I described, should be located.

Please let me know if you get the pop up menu.

Hello rh14k,
got a pop-up window on top it says toolbars the under that comes standard,toolbox,text,zoom,roll-ups,workspace. I also found tool properties but I couldn't find any element that referred to "x, y" axis. I tried for awhile to see if I could download some sort of patch, I thinking that this "x,y" axis is not included in Corel Draw 6.
Kind regards....BigDin

Well, BigDin....maybe you don't have that funtion in corel v6. I don't know because it's been a long time since I last used it. I use corel v11 now and I also have access to versions 8, 9 and 10, so here's a way you can still place those marks at evenly spaced intervals at the side of an object but first do this test.....

-make a small box
-select it
-hold down the ctrl key and press D at the same time
-if you got a dup. box on the original but slightly to one side do not continue with the instructions below
-if it looks like nothing happend then move the box that's still selectd, there should now be two boxes if this is true continue with the instructions below

I'm assuming that your rulers are set to the units of measure you wanted on them.

1) in the upper left corner where your rulers join together, place your cursor in that corner hold the left mouse button down and drag back to a corner on your object where you will start to make the marks that you want (you will see two dashed lines intersect at the point of your cursor)

2) you've just placed the zero markes of your rulers on the corner of your object. You will now be able to align your marks evenly from the first one

3) align your first mark at the edge of the object
(note: to align a mark exactly to an edge select the mark then the object, together, then press;...ctrl-L aligns to left...ctrl-R aligns to right...ctrl-T aligns to top....ctrl-B aligns to bottom)

4) now deselect anything selected

5) select the mark only

6) press ctrl-D a duplicate mark should be placed on the original mark (if there's no dup. made or the dup. is not directly on top of the original, stop here & post me a message.....if the mark is on the original then proceed)

7) move the selected dup. mark, the distance you want away from the first, then hold down the ctrl key while pressing D for each mark you want
