Greetings, I have a Dell Dimension 5150 pc and whenever I press the power button to turn it on instead of the conventional green light I get a steady orange light. It does seem that the hard drive is spinning and the fan running but the pc seems to be in some sort of hybernation or standby mode. Has anyone had this problem before and do you know of any possible fixes? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

SeeCharp,

Dells are famous for power supply issues. And, since they are proprietary, a generic might not work. has Dell-compatible PSUs...but...it might be something else.

A PSU tester is cheap and readily available from your local tech shop.

Try unplugging the cable from the PSU, switch the I/O off. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds. Wat 15 minutes or so, plug back in & check. If it works, the PSU is failing. Your mainboard is not getting a "power good" signal frome the PSU.

Thanks Tony I appreciate the help. The funny thing is that this problem just started to occur randomly yesterday it worked and today it doesn't. I believe with this particular pc this has occured before as well sometimes the power led is green and it boots up but other times it stays on orange and does anything. I'm going to try to implement your suggestions and see if I can figure it out in the interim if anyone else has anything to add to what tony suggested, I'm all ears. I mean screen, :)
