Hey, been a while...

I am running a Dimension 2400 Cel 2.4GHz with 512MB and the built in Intel 845G graphics controller and am looking to upgrade my graphics card in order to get a better resolution than 640x480 at High Color. 1024x768 goes to 256 colours and cannot get it to go to anything better....

Can anyone recommend a cheap PCI card(yes, I know - an old technology, I do not have AGP or PCI-E as the unit is 3 years old) for under £25/30?

I am looking at this but am not sure of it is compatible...

Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance.

Your system lacks a decent cpu and even amount of memory to run Vista comfortably.

Since VISTA wont do anything new for you, I would skip it until you have a better system.

Vista wasn't even mentioned.
Anyway, vista would run on this system, all right it wouldn't be great.
I had Vista RC1 running on my machine & that was only an AMD Duron 1ghz & 768mb ram. It ran OK. Being as this was very old technology I think that aint bad.

You want to run Vista just to get better graphics? Oh no don't do that! Or you have already installed Vista and you can't get better than 1024 x 768 at 256 colors with this chipset?

I can't believe that the Intel graphics is that cheap. There must be a driver issue in your system, or perhaps a BIOS setting to allocate enough system memory for the graphics controller. For 1024 x 768 at 16 bpp you need 2 Megs of memory min. Perhaps that the BIOS is only allocating 1 meg.

(I have a vintage 486 system with integrated graphics and it does 1024 x 768 x 16bpp).

Can someone tell where in the original post that Vista was mentioned.
Have I missed something?

Admittedly it wasn't mentioned in the original post but the entire subject was about running Vista on my Dimension 2400 - hence why I called the Thread "Dimension 2400 running Vista"

Sorry....
