I have a Latitude d610. I use the power adapter and the display is fine, when I use the battery the video display is dull and hard to see. Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Most laptops behave like this when running on batteries because a dimmer display uses less battery power. There will be a couple of keyboard short-cuts for controlling the brightness - the manual will tell you what they are - so you can turn it up or down manually.
Sometimes there is also an option to disable the 'auto-dim on batteries' feature, it depends on the model. You might be able to access this via the laptop management utility - I don't know what this will be called because I use an Acer laptop. On mine it's called 'Acer Manager' I think.
If you can't find the option there you might be able to find it in your BIOS settings - again the manual will tell you how to get into BIOS set-up. Normally you have to hold down one of the function keys when it boots.
