please give me a brief description of digital unix what it does different from regular unix i am applying for an job that requires that i answer a question on digital unix
There is many differences, but here are a few: 1) Digital UNIX (or now called Tru64 UNIX)is mainly Berekely based instead of System 5, 2) It is a true 64 bit oprerating system which uses true system clustering. 3) and it runs only on Alpha systems.
a. It runs the same CDE "Common Desktop Interface" as in AIX
b. The 64 bit execution comes from the propietary Alpha chip technology.
c. These boxes may have PCI devices like your regular pc, altho I would only suggest compliant devices!.
d. With a product called "Pathworks" (licence required for server and clients) You can make any Tru64 Unix server a Primary, Backup Domain Controler or Standalone "NT like" system.
e. You run Alpha compiled code on it. Best if you ave the source code when you port from any other platform. Platform beeing "IBM, HP, SUN or others"
