He have a bell with rang with an analogue telephone, 2 wires connected from the phone base to the bell and it rang like goodness knows what,
Now we have a digital telephone network and I have no idea what wire connect to this bell, the cabling is all over cat5 and then patched to the relavent slot on the panels. Does anyone have any links to website which can explain what signals run through what wires etc?....

Thanks in advance

You usually cannot hook a analoge bell to a digital phone. You usually hook bell to a analoge port off system and program to ring at the same time digital phone rings.

What type of phone system?

executone is right. you can't do that. however, the phone system should have the options to do what your asking meaning to bring an analogue line off the others. if not you can buy a bell to compromise pretty cheaply. if someone knows differently PLEASE let me know, so i can kick myself in the ass for past mistakes.

Sometimes I've found it easier to just open the phone and tap off the existing speaker connecting the leads to an external horn type speaker. With that you get the intercom ring tone over the speaker. It's not a bell, but it can sometimes get you by.

Good Luck!
It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!
