I recently started to install 6408 digital phones in my plant. However, I've encountered a problem when the digital phone is not at the end of the trunk line back to the PBX. Placing the phone in the middle of the run, because this is the nearest accessible drop, results in the phone being powered up, i.e. I can dial numbers and see them on the display, but the PBX does not properly see the phone.

To date I've been cutting the lines that continue on and just designating certain lines as only being accessible at certain locations. However, is there something else that can be done, such as the installation of a terminating resistor at the end of the line or a setting in the PBX.

I have a Definity System, currently at Release 9. The phones and cards are all new and as I said work fine when the phone is at the end of the line.

I do not understand what you are talking about????

However, hope this helps...

If you are running a V9 then, I am assuming you have two wire digital cards in your switch.

If so and you are connecting a 6408 phone to the switch, then they work on 1 pair. In a standard 8 pair station cable, that would be the first white/blue pair. This pair should be cross-connected to any avaiable or free pair on the 110 wiring frame for that 2 wire digital card. If you are connecting to a new card like a TN2224, there are 24 pairs or station pairs on that card and 110 punch down frame.

All cabling should be direct between the phone and the associated digital card. There should be no "continuing on" of the cabling after the phone jack since you cannot bridge the DCP ports like you can with an analog port. In short, your going to burn up a phone, pack or port if you continue to hook phones up with jacks bridged to additional cabling leading to destinations unknown. It's a bad idea. -CL
