Forum: A digital question for all opinions and experiences:

Q: In addition to the wonderful MCK gateways and extenders,
what other company makes a similar product?

Q: Who makes a product that will interface an LS/DS trunk
to IP through fast internet?

Q: What companies provide Internet to POTS conversion in their local area? Anyone with experience here?

Poster Jsaad suggested MultiVOIP for single/multi port Internet gateway. Any others. Home phone internet gateways? Adaptable situation?

Rgds all,
PhM

Also does anyone know of an extender that supports Companion Baystations? I know MCK does not.

Curly,
That's a good question.

I've had good luck throwing a Quicknet Phonejack card into a spare windows computer here and piping it into a trunk port on the KSU. Not a standalone solution but I've got the server here anyway... it allows for my customers to call in via IP through any H.323 application, and the software that runs the card allows me to dial outbound to any ip address. I don't think this would be a solution for anyone who needs to have more than one VOIP port, as far as I know the software doesn't support one card in a PC... but for the single line solution it works like a charm for me.

As an aside to Curly's post, does anybody know if there is any way to throw an ATA on the far side of an MCK connection? I was thinking that maybe something like a Lynx ATA might work since it brings the analog through on the B2 DN... but I don't know if the MCK boxes bring the B2 DN across, haven't found a cheap one to try it with :)

MCISAR.
I have put an ATA2 on the MCK gateway 6000. It never occurred to me that it wouldn't work. It does. I use it for remote paging connected to a Bogen TAMB.

MCISAR,

The ATA2 will work on the far end of an MCK extender. However, I cannot seem to get a modem to connect through it when the connection between the MCK's is a plain old Internet IP connection. For voice it works great. If you need any MCK stuff for Norstar, I have lots.

Solo,
Please E me on your MCK stock.

MCISAR,
Does quicknet make a multi port card?

PhM

Salo, thanks for the tip I'll be taking my ATA2 down to the office tomorrow to try it out on my MCK... I'm just the opposite to you, I never thought to try it because it wasn't listed on their "supported terminals" list :) Oh, and please drop me an email regards your MCK inventory also... mcisar@starmania.net

Arr, Quicknet doesn't make a multi port card unfortunately. They do have a version of their software which (with licenses) will allow you to run multiple cards in a PC. Unfortunately that software will only allow you to make outbound H.323 calls but won't do the incoming calls like the single user software (actually I've been told that unofficially it will handle one incoming). That said, there is open-source software available for their cards that runs under Linux so I'm sure that limitation could be overcome on that platform with a little hacking if it isn't supported natively :) I plan to do a little testing as soon as I can find a cheap card on eBay and some time to play.
Cheers,

mcisar,
So cool stuff. I wonder if there is an IP conversion card/module you can attach to a T1 card? Then you can fool with channels.
