Can you use a digital Centrex desk set on an analog Centrex line at all?
I've got conflicting reports on this.

I'm not sure of the set models as I'm not on-site right now. Aastra's and Meridians though.

A digital centrex set won't function on an analog centrex line, and vice versa. The Meridian M5000 series phones are digital centrex and will only work off a Nortel digital centrex system. The Aastra phones could be either analog or digital, depending on model number.

Two types of Centrex lines

Digital Centrex Lines - as Biv343 describes about the M series phones - only the carrier can program them, be careful as butt set or toners may disable the set from the C.O.
Test with a phone at demarc, if does not work call the carrier.

Analog Centrex Line - like normal Pots lines including rollovers (hunt or equivalent) but with some minimal Centrex features used on analog sets or with PBX's.

Makes sense. Confirms what I thought. That's why we have modems after all, right? Can't go digital to analog or vice-versa with out some sort of converter in between.
