New to macs (yeap fail for the hype)

and my trusted Fuji s5600 is not being reconised by the system (running os 10.4)

I would appreciate some trouble shootign steps i can take.

So far i have tried

1, Runing the camera in smartpic mode
2, runnign the camera in DSC mode
3, using image capture to reconise the device
4, using iphoto to reconise the device

The camera does not appear anywhere

Have you tried connecting to another port on the computer?

Yeap tried both usb ports,

also the camera works fine on a pc so no issue with the cable

This article implies that the driver should be already loaded and should just be recognised by iPhoto.

When I plug my camera in and switch on iPhoto opens automatically so I don't have experience of this as a problem.

Obvious questions first: Camera is switched on and in 'preview photo' mode?

It might be worth having a look in the discussions part of the apple support site: in case someone has had this issue with this camera.

Good luck!

The question should be [red]Is it worth trying to do?[/red] not [blue] Can it be done?[/blue]

Hi Chance
Have you tried having the camera turned off, then plugging it into the USB port and turning it on, and look on the desktop for the Icon?
My Sony DSC S85 doesn't need any software installed other than what OS 10.4.10 has.
When I plug it in, it just appears on the desktop like any external HD.

Yeap tried plugging in / off
different ports
rebooting with camera plugged in
memory card formated
also saw a few web posts on resetting the hardrive permissions

but still nothing.

Wont work if you're pluging it into the keyboard USB ports. Use the one on the back of the machine. (Unless you are)...

Absolutely basic USB question: Plug the camera into your Mac and turn on the camera. Go to the Apple menu and select "About this Mac". From the "About this Mac" dialog box, select "More Info". An application will run that will display a hardware profile. Is your camera listed under "USB"? If not, you may have a USB problem with your Macintosh.

2. What happens if you put the card in a memory card reader and plug the reader into the Mac?

3. Launch the Image Capture application. Go to Preferences. Make sure that the option "When a Camera is Connected" is set to launch iPhoto.

Other questions:

1. Does your Mac have iPhoto installed? Have you tried running iPhoto while the camera is plugged in?

2. Does the camera show up as an icon on the desktop when it is plugged in?
