having had some memory delivered i noticed that the modules stated pc2100 and pc3200. can i use the two "different" sticks on the same motherboard?

PC2100 is 266MHz DDR SDRAM.

PC3200 is 400MHz DDR SDRAM.

More than likely, both will work on your motherboard. However, the highest speed that they will successfully work at together is 266MHz. So the answer depends on what speed you need for your motherboard. Knowing its make/model would help.

I agree pretty much with cdogg apart from second to last line:
"So the answer depends on what speed you need for your motherboard"
well it does but most DDR motherboards will work with all DDR speeds PC1600/PC2100/PC2700/PC3200/PC3500 of memory but not at their full potential.
If we are talking AMD Duron or XP then:
It will work fine as long as your processor has a front side bus of 266 or less so basically early XP2.6+ or lower.

Start by questioning and soon you will be anwering.
So please take but remember to return and give when you can.

paparazi,

Yes, I was trying to say that they would work, just not at their full potential:

"[blue]More than likely, both will work on your motherboard. However, the highest speed that they will successfully work at together is 266MHz[/blue]"

When I said the answer depends on the motherboard, I meant the "optimal" answer!
