Hello ... quick question for anyone who may be able to provide an answer.

I'm using ArcServe 7.0 for my NT backups. In the job log there are two fields that seem self explanatory.

"Total Size (Disk)"

and

"Total Size (Media)"

These seem fairly straight forward, but when comarping some of the values, often, the "Total Size (Media)" is much greater than the "Total Size (Disk)".

I was under the impression that the total size on media should be smaller because of compression.

Any insight?

Thanks,

kovacsa

The size on media includes the data size and all the meta-data from ARCserve. It will generally be larger than the data on disk estimate. This value will only be smaller if you have enabled compression and the data being archived can be compressed to a smaller size. If the data can only be compressed to 90% of its original size then you may not see much difference.
