I have a W2K server(SBE) that has BE 8.6(3878) installed. Has been performing normal full/differential rotation each week until last night when the diff failed with this error message, in part....note, <local server> replaces the real name.

Unable to attach to \\<local server>\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group.NEWFS_EMS_NO_LOG_BKUP

Incremental and differential backups are not possible, because one or more of the Microsoft Exchange transaction log files has been deleted since the last backup.

Note that the rest of the file backups ran as expected.

What is causing this situation?

I've gone into the Exchange 2000 admin and can see the first storeage group...but not the news_ems_no_log_bkup.

If you are running differentials, it wants to back up the Exchange logs since last backup. Have you by any chance got the flush committed transaction logs selected?
