Different ways to connect to the console?

So, I've always been using the light blue RJ45 -> DB9 cables for connecting a laptop or whatever to a cisco switch, router, etc.

All these newer laptops are coming without serial ports, is there an alternate way of connecting to the console port with a laptop that doesn't have a serial port? Say it only has the 25 pin, or doesn't even have that. Is there options?

USB to 9 pin Serial adapter connected to the light blue cable is what I am using .

No other options---serial COM ports are exactly that...
