I am working on laying out a newspaper and i am trying to create a page with bastardized measures--measures that are wider than a normal page's columns. However because i want the page to contain both the normal sized columns and the wider columns I am running into some difficulty. I can't figure out how to set the columns different widths on the same page. I have a page with 5 columns and i want to take three of those columns and in that space make two columns. And then still have the remaining two normal width columns on the page. Does anyone know how to do this

Thank you.

Set up the doc with the 5 columns, or whatever you like, although it sounds like you want 4 columns - 2 wide & 2 regular. In that case make 4 columns

Go to Layout menu/Layout Adjustment. Click Enable and check evrything in the window. You will now be able to freely move the column guides. You'll have to play with the gutter a little bit to get it the way you want. You might want to save that layout as a template so you don't have to do it again.

Another way to do it is to set the doc to full page. Then Create guides on layout menu. If you select 2 for columns you get one guide. If you leave "remove existing guides" unchecked, you can then add more guides - again specifying 2 columns. With lyaout adjustment fully enabled, you will be able to move the guides, and adjust gutters freely.
