different records on the screen from one database

in a database there are x- records that contain the names of people.
now i want to show fifty names on the screen.
i want to get them from a databaselist
i want to choose the first number and the list should always show 50 names on the screen like a screen that is showing wich names are in the building
i use dbtext to show the names, but how do i fill them with the right name

It would be helpful to know which database you're using and what your table structure is. There are ways to do this using SQL. Also, I would recommend using a TDBGrid to display the list - you can make some of the fields not visible but still have the data available if you need to search on it.
