Different file ownership for different filesystems ????????

Folks,

How is this posible? Here is the scenario:

Root touches a file under /sap and the ownership of the file is root.sap when in fact root is NOT a member of the sap group. Any ideas ???

Looks like SGID has been set on the /sap directory.
