Different display using df and du

I'm using DEC Unix 4.0D on a DEC-Alpha 4100 machine.
I've deleted a file size ca. 4 GB. After deleting df shows:
Filesy 512-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
psi2 71057328 60939196 9297920 87% /psi2
the command du -s /psi2 shows: 52232312 /ps12 as used space. Where are the missing GBs.

how long did you wait after deleting the 4gb file ? I have found that df does take some time to return the true figures. Try again later ans see if it is showing correct output.
