Different application or desktop if users is remote or local

Is it possible to configure a user so that they get no desktop and a mail application only, if connecting from outside the office environment but if connecting internally, get the published desktop?

Good question....only way I know of is to publish 2 different "apps".

I am interetsed to see if anyone has found another way.
