I have a report with unused parameters on it. Our users access this via Infoview and for some reason they can see and select these parameters whilst if I look at it via the Management Console they are hidden but if they are not hidden all you can do is view them. The parameters don't actually do anything but the useres thought they did!

Any ideas why Infoview & console are different and is there anything smart I can do to keep them in step other than remove the unused parameters from all our reports?

What version and service pack of BO Enterprise XI are you running?

To be totally honest I have no idea, can you tell me how I can tell which one we are on?

On the server where the BOE XI software is installed, under Start, All Programs, Business Objects XI ..., Business Objects Enterprise launch the Central Configuration Manager.

There will be a version column which displays a version and build number. This will tell me what version you are running.

I had a look and either I don't have access or it just isn't there. I asked our database administrator and he says we're not on a full load of Enterprise and that it's a skeleton version and it runs on MSDE if that means anything to you???

OK when you are in the management console, is there a servers button? If so click on it and then click on aserver name. This should reveal a version number.

Good Morning,

I think this is what you mean, or at least I hope this is what you mean. Thanks for your help and patience so far.

Version Number: 11.0.0.748

Ok thanks. This means you are probably running Crystal Reports Server Release 1. This helps me identfiy what options you have available.

You are correct in saying that you can remove the parameters from each report if they are not required and this will prevent them from showing.

However, Via the CMC (Central Management Console), Objects, click on the report in question.

Under the Process tab, click on Parameters to reveal all of the parameters used in the report.

You can either enter a default value for each parameter, or check "prompt the user for new values when viewing" or "Clear the current Parameter value(s)". This controls some of the behaviour of parameter fields via Infoview. It is not possible in this release to prevent parameters from showing, if they are on the report.

Thanks again for your help, I'm assuming from what you say that this is maybe possible in other more recent releases?

Looks like a longwinded exercise of tidying up all our reports in the meantime. We just didn;t see that this could create any problems but it has!

Cheers again.

Yes, from what I've seen of Crystal Reports 2008 it is possible to make a parameter "not visible".

I am assuming that the Server products family (BOE, CRS etc) will also have this functionality. I cannot be certain as this will be included in either the the next release (codenamed titan) or a future release. Titan is due for release some time in the first half of 2008.
