I am trying to find out if there are any differences in linking tables or the visual linking expert while creating a report. In versions before Crystal Reports 8.5, a user was able to add dabase columns from more than one table without linking the tables. In Crystal Reports 8.5 we were not able to get all the data to show and had to link the different tables to get it to print right. Is there something different about linking and the visual linking expert in version 8.5? I am trying to figure out why this problem did not happen in earlier versions.

I have never been able to get certain reports without linking the tables, and I have been working with Crystal for 5 years.

I suspect that "smart linking" has been turned off (which is a good thing), while in your earlier versions of crystal it was turned on, so you were linking without knowing it. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

You are correct.

Crystal no longer allows you to select fields from 2 unlinked tables. It used to allow it.
