Hey Everyone,

I have an employee who works part-time from home and we decided it was best to set them up with an IP Phone (our full-time teleworkers use i2004 phase II sets (NTDU92)).

I found that I can purchase a New-In-Box phase I i2002 phone for $50, which includes a power adapter; however I'm trying to decide if it would be better to spend the extra money and buy a Phase II set (and power adapter)

So my question is aside from the built-in switch and 802.3af PoE capabilities, are there really any functionality differences between the Phase I (NTDU76) and the Phase II (NTDU91) IP sets?

The NTDU76 is a "phase 1" IP Phone 2002. Nortel stopped manufacturing them in early 2005 so your "New-In-Box" one has been sitting around for 3 years. It may or may not work on your BCM, will not be repaired by Nortel if it breaks, and definitely cannot utilize any of the firmware for the NTDU91.

Thanks gwebster for the info,

At this time, I was considering it for simply the price (as if it breaks, it would mostlikely be pretty cheap to replace it).

I've been in contact with a few local vendors about the phase II ip phones (as well as the 1140e) so hopefully in a day or two I'll be able to compare pricing and determine what's best for us (since it probably should be considered as something that will be used for years, so spending a little extra is worth it).
