Greetings all!

Can someone tell me if you need to provision a special line from the LEC to be able to use an 800 DID board?

In all of the documentation I've seen (and there doesn't appear to be much mentioning this module), it seems that you still plug in a GS/LS analog trunk, then configure the system to send calls ringing on that trunk directly to system extensions..

So rather than ringing on a line appearance, it comes in on an SA key (just like a transfer would).

Is this correct? I want to experiment with one of these boards, but I haven't determined if I can just plug it right into a loop-start line yet.

THANKS GUYS!

- Joel

800 D-I-D is for ANALOG Direct Inward Dial lines only.

"Normal" LS/GS Lines won't work in this module.

The Phone company must send digits (either rotary or Touch Tone) for the module to know where to route the call.

These are ususally WINK START lines, as well.

So what do I ask for when I'm talking to QWest, trying to order for a customer?

I ask for an "analog DID line"? Are these horribly common anymore? Is it possible that your LEC would just tell you no, then try and sell ya a T-1 or PRI ?

Thanks!

- Joel

If you wanted to use the 800 D-I-D, yes, analog D-I-D would be the circuit.

And, probably yes, they'd try to sell you T1 or PRI.

Any more, some vendors sell PRI for a rate similar to T1 and with the benifit of being able to have more lines and cheaper LD.

So, the cost of a T1 card and PRI service may well be worth the difference.

Also, remember, the analog D-I-D is ONE WAY IN ONLY!

PRI & T1 are both 2 way.

ANd, I have found out, that you cant get callerid over analog DID lines. Caller ID only on PRI DID..

Hi Mongo5150,

Can you elaborate on the analogue DIDs w/ Caller ID? Cause in most CO switches, 5ESS or DMS100, DID trunks are provisioned from the "trunk side" of the switch and the inband signal is either Touch-Tone, MF, or dial pulse and supervision is reverse battery type and start type being, wink, delay-dial or immediate. I am not awhere of any recent change of this format from any of the LECs in California.
Is the service provider a LEC or CLEC?
