Hello,

We just upgraded HP-UX to 11i. We were using elm to send mail. Can anyone tell me the difference among these commands: elm, sendmail and mailx? What is the standard? Which one has better benefit than others?

Thank you very much in advance.

mailx is on both Solaris and HP-UX and allows you to put a Subject from the command line, so I put this one in scripts.
elm has a better user interface so I use this to read mail on HP-UX servers.
sendmail should not be used directly. If you do a man sendmail it will tell you this as well. Only mail clients should use sendmail

Get hold of pine. Much better if email is important to you.
Otherwise elm is good. mail/mailx don't bother, except for scripting with.
