Hello, I am trying to calculate the difference between two dates and trying to represent the difference in precentage. For example, if I have baseline finish 01/02/08 and Actual Finish 01/11/08. I want to calculate the difference between the two dates and then show the % percentage variance. So I know how to calculate the difference between two dates, I just dont know how to show the percentage or calculate the percentage of the change or difference. Please help!!

Hi,

Just subtract the two to get the difference.

So what is the BASE value that you want to calculate the percentage on? The DateValue is not what you want, since the actual number is based on 1/1/1900. faq68-5827.

So you have 9 days difference. 9 divided by WHAT?

Skip,

[glasses]Have you heard that the roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was...

in cell A1: Subtract the baseline finish from the start date

in cell B1: Subtract the actual finish from the start date

then: =(B1-A1)/A1

-Why use a big word when a diminutive one will do?-

oops - I misspoke

in cell A1: Baseline finish minus start date
in cell B1: Actual finish minus start date

then =(B1-A1)/A1

Thank you guys for your help. I just found out the number of days or the difference by using the DATEDIF formula and then divided it by 365 days and got the precentage for that. I am still trying to find out how to show a negative percentage if the date let say February had a date of 05/02/08 and then March had a date for 04/02/08. If the the date has decreased than I want it to show a change of -8.22%. It currently shows the date as 8.22% instead of negative 8.22%. This I am trying to figure out how to show the percentage if the date has decrease or is earlier than the last months date. Again thank you for your help.

I got it. I just multiplied it with -1 if it was negative and if it was positive just leave as it is. Thanks anyways.

Why use datedif? Just subtract one date from another if you want the result to be in number of days.

got the percentage for that

I don't get it. The percentage of what, how?
