I need to add another digital line card to my Definity G3 v9.05. We've maxed out the number of digital extensions I can use. We currently have 3 TN2224B V3 cards in our Definity. The Tn2224B is for 24 ports. I see that there is a 16 port TN2181 2W digital line card which is a lot cheaper. Since I only need about 8 ports for the time being, it looks attractive. Are these two the same except for the number of ports? I'll be hooking up 6416D+M, Call Master V and the rare 6408D pones to the card.

Also, I have a question about the cable that runs from the back of the digital card to the punch down block. I assume there is a standard cable and punch down block for this. What should I look for in getting this? Do the blocks come already wired or will I need to wire the back of the block?

Thanks for any information.

Mike

The only difference between tn2224 and tn2181 is the number of ports 24 vs 16. It make sence to use the 24 port card as you only have x number of slots avaiable in your Definity. They also make a TN2224CP which is firmware upgradeable. Every time I need a card I buy the TN2224CP's. Try looking for refurb cards, you will save much more money than buying new.

As far as the 110 fields go, you can buy them prewired with anphanol tails, but they are very expensive. My way is to buy the cable with 2 anphanol ends. Then cut it in half, which gives you 2 cables to punch down yourself. Wiring is w/bl, w/or, w/gr, w/br, w/sl. Then repeate with Red, Black, Yellow, Violate as the primary color.

Thanks for the info. The color scheme was going to be my next question if I needed to wire it. I have no problem punching down wire, but it's been a long time since I've punched down 24 pair like that.

That's good to know about the CP card. I'll look for that as well. We don't need 24 additional extensions at this time, but will in the future. I've got about 8 slots free in our 2 cabinets and I've got to get some more TN464F cards to put in there real soon as well. There is never any long term warning on stuff like this, they always drop it into my lap the week before. <grin>

Thanks again.

Mike

Your welcome. I usuallly like to get the latest card becuase you know when avaya is no longer going to support old hardware. I know that if you upgrade to an S8XX0 processor there are some cards, like a announcement board, that will not work. For this reason I like to get the newest versions of cards.
