What is the difference between TCP/IP and Named Pipes in the Client Utility for SQL Server?

Delton.

In a fast LAN environment, TCP/IP and Named Pipes client are comparable in
terms of performance. However, the performance difference between them
becomes apparent with slower networks, such as across WAN or dial-up
networks. It is recommended that you use TCP/IP. For more information,
please refer to Microsoft SQL Server with the keyword 'Named Pipes vs.
TCP/IP Sockets' as the search topic.

Thanks
