Difference between SysAccess 00 and Pool

I recently switched a phone system from Key to Hybrid. Lines were added to pool 70. I removed some from the pool to have some line appearances (thanks to forum advice).

The button that represented the pool is programmed with SysAccess 00.

I have been re-programming the button as Pool -I

I have noticed that this removes the need to press 9 before dialing. But I am wondering at what cost.

I have a pretty good understanding what the SA function is but I dont fully get the SA-00.

I am now re-reading the Feature manual but I thought this thread may help me and others.

SA OO is for outgoing calls only. If you have 2 people on the phone already (one on SA Voice and one on SA Ring for example), you need a 3rd button available to do a transfer or conference. If you remove your SA OO, you won't be able to transfer or conference if you have your other two access buttons in use. Know what I mean?

P.S. I've personally never used the pool button...or it's been so long I don't remember. In general, I don't see a need to have the pool button on a phone. I like the flexibility of having all 3 SA buttons. You could add another SA button though if you want.

The "COST" is any dialing restrictions an extension may have had are now eliminated.

The "Benefit" is that the folks coming from a KEY Environment will still be able to call out w/o using the 9.

One other thing, however, is that they can't just say; "Bill pick up line 1".

That is lost when moving to the HYBRID PBX Mode, whether they have a pool button or not.

Thanks all, that is exactly the sort of feedback I was looking for. I want to have the lines all in a pool. I want them to get away from the whole shouting "Pick up line blah, blah, blah" stuff. So I have started programming PickUp buttons. Now that I have some extra buttons thanks to the Pool :)

To add to the comment about the SA00 function - I would consider (even though it will require removing and then re-adding the pool button to put them in the same place) adding the SA00 back to the system - it provides a third talk path for people to manage calls for transfers, conferences, etc. If it is busy at the location, it can make a difference. Otherwise you may have people 'stuck' on the phone because there is no call path available to move them elsewhere. Just a thought...

Thanks again, to close up this thread, I have decided to move the Pool button back to the SA00.

Great wisdom here.
